Biography

Helen's journey as an artist started in 1982 when she made her first patchwork quilt. Since then she has made innumerable quilts and wall hangings.
Over the last few years her focus has changed from piecing quilts to using fabrics as a medium to create pictures.
Photos taken while travelling are used for inspiration. Helen works from photos and strives to make her pictures as real as possible using fabric, threads, wools and silk.
She has attended workshops with world class fabric art tutors over the past two years and learned much, while developing her own style. Each new picture challenges her as her style continues to evolve.
In 2006 Helen started painting classes with Garry Eyre with the intention of using what she learned to extend her work with fabric. Little did she know that the painting would take on a life of it's own!
Her use of patterns, different textures and the attention to detail that are required in patchwork have influenced her painting style.
Helen's love of old buildings and landscapes lends itself to her näive style of painting. From the English countryside and castles to the red earth landscape and interesting buildings of her home town, her paintings and fabric art are developing a strong following among the many visitors to the Mayo Vale Gallery at the Artists Cottage in Kingaroy Queensland. ![]()
